Handwriting
In Kindergarten we use Handwriting Without Tears to teach children how to correctly form letters and numbers. When working with your child always start at the top to form the capital and lowercase letters!
Name Writing
Learning to write your name the "School Way" is another important skill in kindergarten. We teach students to only put a capital at the start of their first and last name with the rest lowercase letters. Have your child practice writing their first name! Towards the end of kindergarten they will then be taught to write their last name too!
Creative Writing
Kindergartners start writing by drawing pictures to tell a story. They then learn to label their pictures and eventually write sentences. In kindergarten we work on of the following skills...
Using finger spaces
Capital to start a sentence
Lowercase letters where needed
Punctuation to end a sentence
Using neat handwriting
Using sight words in a sentence
Sentences that make sense
